2014 Teen Fanfiction Writing Contest

2014 Teen Fanfiction Writing Contest

Guidelines

  •  Participants must be in grades 6-12.
  • One submission and one author per entry.
  • Submissions must be original. Plagiarized entries or previously published work will be disqualified.
  • You may include original characters, but fanfic must contain at least one copyrighted character or setting.
  • Stories should be 1-10 pages, double-spaced, in Times New Roman font.
  • No explicit content, please! Stories should be G, PG or PG-13.
  • Insert a header containing the story title and page numbers.
  • DO NOT include the author's name anywhere on the story. The judges will look at the stories without knowing who wrote them.
  • Please include the following disclaimer at the beginning of your story: “I am in no way associated with the owners, creators or producers of [insert title of the work your story is inspired by]. No copyright infringement is intended.”
  • Submissions will only be accepted between June 16 and July 31st. Stories must be submitted no later than midnight on July 31, 2014.

Prizes

The winning authors will receive Jabberwocky gift cards, and all contestants will have the option of having their work spiral-bound and added to NPL’s new Fanfiction Library—a collection of fanfiction by local teens that people will be able to check out from the library!

To Enter

Submit your work via email to nplteenlibrarian@gmail.com. Files should be Word Documents (.doc or .docx), or PDF files (.pdf). Printed copies will not be accepted. Email should include:
  • Writer’s name, age, grade and phone number
  • Title of the story
  • Indicate whether or not you would like your story added to the Fanfiction Library

Please review your submission carefully before sending.
We cannot make any changes once your story has been received.

Evaluation

Stories will be evaluated on their originality, grammar, spelling, and the level of technical skill based on the writer’s age. Stories by middle schoolers and high schoolers will be judged separately.
